Zava
researchedfull dossierDrEd’s original regulatory arbitrage, rebuilt through Dublin after Brexit and now sitting inside a NYSE-listed issuer alongside its own opposite number.
Health Bridge Limited (UK, 07392646, t/a ZAVA, formerly DrEd) and Health Bridge Medical Limited (Ireland, CRO 648769). Both sit under Zava Global GmbH, Hamburg HRB 156106, which is the entity Hims & Hers actually acquired.
Model
UK: two own GPhC-registered pharmacies, GMC prescribers, no consultation fee, no subscription. Germany: German patient, Irish Medical Council prescriber, Dutch pharmacy (Prime Pharmacy B.V., Belfeld, KvK 81205864), pass-through drug price plus a flat €33.99 treatment fee. Questionnaire plus photographic BMI verification, asynchronous review, no video. Web only, no app in any market.
Pricing
Germany: Mounjaro €206.80 to €490.01 by dose plus a flat €33.99 treatment fee, refunded in full if the doctor declines. UK: Mounjaro £169.99 to £309.99 and Wegovy £99.99 to £189.99, no consultation fee and no subscription, which undercuts Juniper UK and Numan at both ends.
Funding
Acquired by Hims & Hers, announced 3 June 2025 and completed 1 July 2025. Not all cash despite the press release: roughly €219.2m of accounting consideration made up of €142.2m upfront and €77.0m contingent, plus an earn-out of up to €100m over FY2025 to FY2027. The largest acquired intangible is platform partnerships at $100.2m, the Asda and Superdrug relationships, worth more than technology, customers and brand combined.
Scale
1.3 million European and UK customers at acquisition. Health Bridge Limited FY2024 turnover £40,174,544, inside which medication revenue went from £810,382 to £12,992,481 in one year while platform fees stayed flat. 48,380 Trustpilot reviews at 4.8 in Germany, 13,408 at 4.5 in the UK.
Regulatory history
Two ASA rulings, both February 2026, one of which held Zava responsible for referral codes its own customers shared and is now precedent. Never named in an MHRA advertising report in twelve years, which is a real negative finding given its competitors are. Named directly in BGH I ZR 114/22 of 9 February 2023, which held Shop Apotheke may not refer patients to Zava under §11 ApoG and §9 HWG, an arrangement trade press reported had restarted in July 2025. The German model itself is now before the CJEU by way of BGH I ZR 118/24 of 26 March 2026.
In 2026
Zava Deutschland GmbH has been in liquidation since 29 July 2026 while Germany is described as a growth market. Zava UK has been rebuilt as a weight-loss-first, explicitly anti-subscription brand priced against Juniper UK, which the same parent owns.

What this dossier changes
Hims & Hers owns two German GLP-1 businesses that read the same statute in opposite directions. Juniper Germany will not name the molecule and cites the Heilmittelwerbegesetz as the reason. Zava Germany runs 43 indexed brand pages, one of them titled "Mounjaro® online kaufen", with a price list, a stock indicator and a start button, and the letters HWG appear nowhere on any of them.

| Health Bridge Medical Limited (t/a ZAVA)inc. 2019-04-24 | Ireland | CRO 648769 | Incorporated as a Brexit response, not as an original Irish parent. Now the entity named in the German Impressum and the source of the prescribers who write for German patients. Dublin address, German telephone number. |
| Zava Global GmbH | Germany | HRB 156106 (Hamburg) | The entity Hims & Hers actually acquired. The target was German, not British, which is the first correction this dossier makes to the popular account of the deal. |
| Zava Deutschland GmbH | Germany | n/a | In liquidation since 29 July 2026. Geschaeftsfuehrer Marc-Oliver Griefahn from 20 November 2025. Being wound down while Germany is described as a growth market in the parent 10-K. |

Licences
Who actually holds the pharmacy registration, the clinical registration and the prescribers. This is the block that most often contradicts a company's own description of itself.
The original pharmacy. Weight loss described as the main activity.
Registered April 2025, specifically for the weight loss volume. Number appears in the UK site footer.
Covers both premises.
The published 2023 report lists the treatments inspected and contains no weight loss and no GLP-1s at all. The GLP-1 business has never been CQC-inspected.
Chief Medical Officer of Hims & Hers. The clearest parent appointee. Also a Health Bridge Ltd director from 12 March 2026.
Medical Director, Zava UK. The CQC report states the Medical Director is the registered manager.
The German Impressum gives an IMC number identical to his GMC number. Either the page mislabels a GMC number as Irish, or the two coincide. The German model depends legally on the prescriber being IMC-registered, so this is worth pressing.
Exhaustively checked across every monthly advertising investigations publication. A real negative finding: the July 2026 report names Bolt Healthcare, Numan, Simple Online Healthcare, Cured Health and four others. Zava is absent from a list its competitors populate.
Money
The deal was not all cash, whatever the press release said
Announced 3 June 2025, completed 1 July 2025. The press release says one hundred per cent cash at closing. The filings say EUR 219.2m, roughly USD 258.0m, of accounting consideration made up of EUR 142.2m upfront and EUR 77.0m contingent, plus an earn-out of up to EUR 100m over FY2025 to FY2027 and a separate tax-loss reimbursement contingency. A Q1 2026 amendment to the purchase agreement converted about USD 67.0m from contingent to fixed. Anyone modelling Zava off the press release is modelling the wrong number.
The GLP-1 line went sixteen times in one year
Health Bridge Limited FY2024: turnover GBP 40,174,544. Inside that, medication revenue moved from GBP 810,382 to GBP 12,992,481, a sixteenfold increase, while platform fee revenue sat flat at GBP 12,553,814. That looks like a medication-margin story and it is not. Cost of sales grew GBP 12.42m against medication revenue growth of GBP 12.18m, so the implied medication gross margin is between roughly zero and 18 per cent. The real model is GBP 19.50m of consultation and platform fee revenue against GBP 12.99m of medication revenue, which is one pound fifty of fee for every pound of medicine. This corrects our earlier reading. Signed by Laurence Neil Norton, audited by Burgis & Bullock of Leamington Spa on 23 December 2025, which is a small regional firm for a GBP 40m subsidiary of a NYSE issuer and is likely to change.
What Hims actually bought was distribution, not technology
The largest acquired intangible in the purchase price allocation is platform partnerships at USD 100.2m, which is the Asda and Superdrug relationships. That single line is worth more than the acquired technology, customer relationships and brand combined. Hims did not buy a telemedicine stack. It bought shelf space and a 910-URL German content estate.
Valuation history: none
No funding round valuation has ever been disclosed for Zava or DrEd. The acquisition price is the only public number.

The actual words. Paraphrase loses the evidence.
Mounjaro® online kaufen – Rezept anfragen | ZAVA
Buy Mounjaro® online, request a prescription
Read against section 10 paragraph 1 HWG, which restricts advertising of prescription-only medicines to doctors, dentists, vets, pharmacists and licensed traders, this is about as direct a fact pattern as exists.
Fragen Sie jetzt Ihr Rezept für Mounjaro® an und kaufen Sie die Abnehmspritze online bei ZAVA.
Request your prescription for Mounjaro® now and buy the slimming injection online at ZAVA.
Ozempic® kaufen ohne Rezept: Ist das möglich?
Buying Ozempic® without a prescription: is that possible?
The article itself argues against buying without a prescription and steers to Wegovy. The commercial point is that the URL and the H1 capture the search term.
Due to the provisions of the Heilmittelwerbegesetz, we are only permitted to state the name of the medicine or the active ingredient after your eligibility has been reviewed by our medical team. Once payment has been made and we have evaluated your eligibility, we will gladly tell you the name of the medicine and the active ingredient.
Nach einer Überprüfung deiner Eignung durch unser medizinisches Team können wir Dich über die in Betracht kommenden Wirkstoffe informieren.
After a review of your eligibility by our medical team we can inform you about the active ingredients under consideration.
This is a correction to our own earlier record and to the standard account of Juniper Germany. Juniper serves two different answers to one question. The version Google reads cites the HWG and puts the name after payment. The version a customer reads mentions neither the statute nor the payment condition. Both are on the page at the same time.
Proven treatment. Ongoing care. No subscription.
A direct attack on the model Juniper, Numan, Voy and Bolt all run. There is no German equivalent of this line.
Already on treatment. Switch to ZAVA and stay on track. You may still be considered even if your BMI is now below 27, as long as you can provide proof of your previous treatment.
The middle of three journey doors. An explicit competitor-poaching funnel with a relaxed BMI gate for switchers, matched in the SEO estate by dedicated switching pages.
15+ Millionen Behandlungen
15+ million treatments
No date, no geography, no footnote. The UK Trustpilot bio separately claims more than 12 million people since 2011. A treatments claim and a people claim, unreconciled and unsourced. Contrast the UK homepage, which footnotes its outcome claims to a survey of over 2,000 patients.
Naming and gating
Prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the public anywhere in Europe. So how does this competitor refer to the drug, and what stands between a visitor and the brand name?
There is no gate at all in Germany
Anonymous, unauthenticated, no cookie accepted, no age gate, no eligibility interstitial, no login wall. A cold request reaches a full priced product page with a live stock indicator. The brand name, the molecule, the manufacturer, the dose ladder and the price are all visible before any interaction of any kind. The German homepage itself names no brand, but the first click into Gewicht verlieren puts Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Nevolat, Xenical and three orlistat products into running body copy and a priced grid.
And no acknowledgement that a gate might be required
Exhaustive string search of the raw HTML of the Mounjaro, Wegovy, Wegovy Tabletten, Gewicht verlieren and Abnehmspritzen pages returns zero occurrences of Heilmittelwerbegesetz, zero of HWG, zero of Werbeverbot, zero of Pflichtangaben or Pflichttext, and zero of the standard German Zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen formula. The only nod to prescription status is the neutral phrase verschreibungspflichtiges Medikament, a downloadable package leaflet, and the line that one of our doctors will assess your request and if appropriate issue a prescription.
The misdirection trap
The German category stub at /de/abnehmen.html is noindex, nofollow, serves an empty body and is not in the sitemap. A shallow check of the German site lands there and wrongly concludes Zava is HWG-compliant. The real entry point is /de/gewicht-verlieren.html, which is index, follow. Anyone benchmarking German naming discipline needs to go one level deeper than the obvious URL.
One naming policy across five markets, and it is the permissive one
Germany 43 brand-named URLs, the UK 71, France 26, Ireland 12, Spain 19. There is no market in which Zava withholds the name. The difference between markets is positioning, not policy. What makes Germany the story is not that Zava names the drugs there but that a sister company under the same owner says in writing that naming them is unlawful.
The clinical gate sits after payment, in Germany
By Zava Germany’s own published process description the order is: questionnaire, choose your preferred medicine, open a patient account, choose delivery, pay for the medicine plus the 33.99 EUR treatment fee, and only then does a doctor review and decide. Juniper Germany discloses the name at a point equivalent to that last step. The two funnels are near mirror images. Zava refunds all fees including the treatment fee within five to eight days if the doctor declines, which materially softens the payment-first ordering.
The one place Zava Germany is stricter than its peers
Germany inserts a photographic BMI verification step: upload photos of yourself on your first request or after a longer treatment period, with a dedicated photo guidelines page. That is a meaningfully stronger clinical control than self-declared BMI and it is the direct answer to the GPhC’s November 2025 finding against the UK pharmacy, which was that verification does not include independently verifying the person’s height so the BMI may not always be accurate. The German business already does what the UK inspector asked for.

| DE Mounjaro 2.5 mg | 240,79 € every month | Juniper DE 172 € first month then 299 € | Juniper wins month one, loses badly from month two |
| DE Mounjaro range | 206,80 to 490,01 €, which is the AVP exactly | DoktorABC 235,80 to 519,01 € | Zava passes the German list price through at cost. DoktorABC adds a flat 29,00 € inside the medicine line |
Two corrections since this table was first built. The pass-through inference is now verified, and sharper than stated: Zava’s published German drug price is the Apothekenverkaufspreis to the cent, confirmed by PZN lookup at two German pharmacies across four Mounjaro SKUs, so Zava earns nothing at all on the medicine and takes only the 33,99 EUR fee. DoktorABC does not pass through; it charges AVP plus exactly 29,00 EUR on every SKU and then a 49 EUR fee, making it 44,01 EUR more expensive at every dose. The row above showing DoktorABC at 206 to 489 EUR was in fact Zava’s own ladder transcribed into the wrong company, and has been corrected. The UK comparison remains the one that matters internally: Zava UK is priced to undercut Juniper UK and Numan and is messaged explicitly against subscription, which is Juniper UK’s model. One owner is funding both sides of that fight.
Surface
Domains from certificate transparency, not guesswork. Staged markets and internal tooling show up here first.
Path-based, not ccTLD-based, and the legacy domain points at Germany
Live properties are /uk/, /de/, /fr/, /ie/ and /es/ on one domain. zavamed.de redirects to /de/. www.dred.com, the original DrEd domain, redirects to the German site rather than the UK one, which is a small but telling artefact of where the content equity actually sits. dred.de does not exist. zavamed.fr, .es, .ie, .at and .ch are all NXDOMAIN. There is no Austrian, Swiss or Italian consumer property.
Certificate transparency leaks the operating footprint
79 unique DNS names. The conventional guesses, app, my, account, cdn, admin, blog, help, staging and dev, are all NXDOMAIN. The real estate uses its own conventions: pharmacy-service, pharmacy-hub, dispatch, consultation-triage, clinical-rules, signer, consent-policies and a set of EHR admin hosts. Per-market admin instances exist for uk, de, fr, ie, es and it. The Italian one has no consumer property behind it. gkv.zavamed.com, named for German statutory health insurance, now redirects to an app support page. Internal tooling visible in the logs includes Okta, Temporal, Lightdash, Zulip and services named forge, kirin, jarvis, marc-admin and fractl.
The SEO estate is 1,886 URLs and Germany is the biggest by far
DE 910, FR 416, UK 343, IE 153, ES 64. Germany is 2.7 times the UK, which inverts the commercial picture, because the UK is the weight-loss-led market. German depth is a legacy DrEd asset built since 2011. Weight loss is only 8 per cent of the German estate but 27 per cent of the UK one and 41 per cent of the Spanish one. Last-modified dates cluster on 19 and 20 August 2026, so the whole estate is actively maintained.
The programmatic patterns, and the one gap worth exploiting
Brand hub then attribute spokes (dosierung, nebenwirkungen, absetzen, haarausfall, und-alkohol). Brand versus brand comparisons. Switching pages that map exactly onto the UK homepage poaching door. Side-effect capture pages including ozempic-face, ozempic-butt, ozempic-mouth and ozempic-feet. Cost and access intent. And regulatory-edge intent including ozempic-rezeptfrei and abnehmspritzen-generika. The gap: there are no named-competitor pages anywhere in any sitemap. Zava competes brand against brand, never company against company. A rival that builds comparison pages against Zava faces no defensive content at all.
The martech stack is the most disciplined in this competitive set
There is no Google Tag Manager, no GA4, no Meta Pixel, no TikTok pixel and no Bing UET in the delivered HTML of either homepage. Everything routes through Segment proxied first-party on their own domain at av1.zavamed.com, with SiteSpect for A/B testing server-side, OneTrust self-hosted for consent, New Relic for RUM and Cloudinary for images. That architecture defeats ad blockers and cookie truncation, keeps vendor fan-out behind consent, and minimises third-party surface on pages carrying prescription-medicine content. Competitors on client-side GTM plus Meta Pixel are measuring a materially worse signal.
Robots.txt disallows the funnel and permits every AI crawler
One robots.txt for all five markets, 724 bytes. It carefully disallows /api/, /search/, /assessment/, /account/ and /auth/ for each market. It contains zero directives for GPTBot, CCBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, Bytespider, Applebot-Extended or anthropic-ai. Every AI crawler is permitted across all 1,886 URLs, including the 43 German brand pages. For a regulated healthcare business in 2026 that is a striking omission next to the care taken over the funnel paths.
No app in any market
The Apple App Store returns no Zava telehealth app for GB or DE. The Google Play listing com.zavamed.zava has been removed and survives only on APK mirrors, the usual signature of a delisting. Zava confirms it directly: the video consultation offering via the ZAVA app is currently paused. Germany substitutes a third-party app, MyTherapy, linked from the GLP-1 pages. Competitors running retention through a first-party app hold a structural adherence and lifetime-value advantage that Zava has actively given up.
Reputation
Read the one-star reviews properly. They describe the operational model from the outside.
Germany rates far better than the UK, in the market where Zava is not the weight-loss brand
Zava Germany: 4.8 on 48,380 reviews, 89.6 per cent five star, 2.5 per cent one star. Zava UK: 4.5 on 13,408 reviews, 80.3 per cent five star, 10.5 per cent one star. The UK one-star rate is 4.2 times the German one on a third of the volume. Both figures are read from the Trustpilot JSON payload, not from rendered text, and both match the JSON-LD the sites publish about themselves, which is honest practice.
A benchmarking trap
There is a second, near-empty UK profile at uk.trustpilot.com/review/zavamed.com showing 3.2 from three reviews, claimed March 2025, listing a Torrens Street EC1V 1NY address. Anyone benchmarking Zava UK from the obvious URL reads 3.2 out of three instead of 4.5 out of 13,408.
The recurring complaints are the cold chain and response time
Response time is the single topic Trustpilot marks ambiguous in the UK; every other topic is positive. The substantive complaints are cold-chain failures on GLP-1s delivered by Royal Mail in hot weather, with at least one customer reporting a three-month supply spoiled, and faulty pens with refund friction. In Germany the complaints are structurally different and milder: prescriptions processed around midday rather than before the pharmacy opens, and DHL Express not giving a delivery window. Both markets reply to about 99 per cent of negative reviews, typically within a day, and both disclose that replies may be AI-assisted.
Where Zava sits against the field
Germany: DoktorABC 4.7 on 49,830, Zava DE 4.8 on 48,380, Voy Deutschland 4.7 on 5,063, MedExpress DE 4.6 on 2,078, Juniper Deutschland 4.6 on 2,479. Zava Germany has roughly twenty times Juniper Germany’s review volume at a higher score. United Kingdom: Zava UK 4.5 on 13,408 against Juniper UK 4.5 on 13,457, an almost exact match on both score and volume, with Numan 4.6 on 36k, Voy UK 4.7 on 25,169 and Bolt 4.5 on 5,994 around them.
The commercial fact underneath the legal contradiction
In Germany the brand that names the drugs is twenty times larger in consumer footprint than the sister brand that refuses to. That asymmetry is why the contradiction is unlikely to resolve quietly in Juniper’s favour, and it is the single most important thing to understand before deciding which German naming posture to copy.
Visual evidence
Captured live from the public site. Each carries its URL and the date it was taken.

The load-bearing evidence. Zava Germany, unauthenticated, no cookie accepted: brand name, molecule, dose count, live stock status, price from 206,80 EUR plus a 33,99 EUR treatment fee, and a Behandlung starten button. Page title reads Mounjaro® online kaufen. Meta robots index, follow.

The full German dose ladder published as a public price list, 206,80 EUR to 490,01 EUR, with the flat treatment fee stated beneath the start button.

The most aggressive artefact in the German estate: a live, sitemap-listed URL reading ozempic-rezeptfrei, headed Ozempic® kaufen ohne Rezept: Ist das möglich? The body argues against it and steers to Wegovy, which is the point of the construction.

One click from the German homepage. Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Nevolat, Xenical and three orlistat products named in running body copy, each hyperlinked to its own priced product page.

Step two of the published German process is BMI überprüfen lassen, upload photographs of yourself. This is the one place Zava is clinically stricter than its peers, and it answers the exact GPhC finding made against its own UK pharmacy in November 2025.

The structure in one screen. A German-language page whose Impressum names an Irish company, CRO 648769, at 2 Dublin Landings, with a German telephone number, a responsible physician carrying an IMC number identical to his GMC number, and the Irish Medical Council as the supervising Ärztekammer. No German medical entity anywhere.

Juniper Germany, same owner, same market, same day. Zero occurrences of Wegovy, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Semaglutid or Tirzepatid in the entire page source. 27 occurrences of the generic Abnehmspritze.

Our own correction. The rendered answer to Welches Abnehmmedikament wird benutzt? mentions neither the Heilmittelwerbegesetz nor payment. The FAQPage JSON-LD on the very same page, which is what Google reads, cites the HWG by name and says the medicine is named only once payment has been made. Two answers to one question, live simultaneously.

Zava UK has been rebuilt as a weight-loss-first brand: Lasting weight loss, guided by doctors. Proven treatment. Ongoing care. No subscription. That last line is aimed squarely at Juniper UK, which the same parent owns.

The cleanest growth mechanic in the competitive set. Three journey doors, and the middle one, Already on treatment, Switch to ZAVA and stay on track, is an explicit poaching funnel with a relaxed BMI gate for switchers.
Exposure
Rulings, investigations and open matters, dated. Then: what is still live on the site that the ruling was about.
Apothekerkammer Nordrhein and Apothekerkammer Westfalen-Lippe against Shop Apotheke. LG Köln 2021, OLG Köln June 2022, BGH revision not admitted so the OLG judgment is final. The struck-down model: patient picks an indication on the pharmacy site, fills in a questionnaire, receives a private prescription from doctors associated with Zava, redeems it at Shop Apotheke. Grounds: section 11 ApoG, the prohibition on steering prescriptions to a particular pharmacy, and section 9 HWG, unlawful advertising of remote treatment, plus a misleadingness element about Zava’s foreign seat. The court found the arrangement’s real purpose was selling medicines rather than medical consultation. This is the most important item in the dossier and it names Zava directly.
Shop Apotheke is reported to be routing users to Zava again via a Rezept anfragen button at a 12.90 EUR treatment fee plus the medicine price, notwithstanding the February 2023 decision. A US-listed issuer now owns the telemedicine side of an arrangement a German supreme court held unlawful. No contempt or Ordnungsmittel proceedings arising from the restart have been found, which is itself an open question rather than a clean bill of health.
An Apothekerkammer obtained an einstweilige Verfügung against an online pharmacy established in the Netherlands, over advertising online treatment aimed at prescribing weight-reduction medicines where the patient fills in a questionnaire and a doctor not established in Germany prescribes. Grounds: sections 9 and 10 paragraph 1 HWG. The court held questionnaire-only prescribing without personal medical contact fails generally recognised professional standards. We flagged this as the highest-value unresolved question in this dossier because the fact pattern matches Zava’s German model exactly. The DoktorABC research closed it. The respondent was Apomeds, named in terms by Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung on 4 March 2025 and by apotheke adhoc on the day of the decision, and the applicant was the Apothekerkammer Nordrhein rather than a Bavarian chamber, with venue in Munich reflecting the fliegender Gerichtsstand. Zava is excluded because it is not itself an online pharmacy established in the Netherlands. The identification is formally secondary, resting on trade press rather than an unredacted judgment, but the court’s own press release corroborates every non-identifying detail. What replaces the question is a worse fact: by March 2026 the AKNR had obtained two default judgments barring Apomeds from shipping to Germany at all and the company was liquidating. The same article names Zava as a further problematic sender.
Found while researching DoktorABC and material to Zava, because Prime Pharmacy is Zava’s dispensing pharmacy. The Dutch inspectorate found the pharmacy did not establish the identity of new patients, made no demonstrable risk assessment, did not check for concurrent medication use, offered no possibility of a consultation with the pharmacist, performed no final check on correct dispensing and performed no follow-up. It described the model plainly: the pharmacy receives prescriptions from internet doctors and posts medicines, without providing care. The decisive detail is that the bevel prohibited supply to Dutch patients only. Shipments into Germany continued untouched throughout. A pharmacy the Dutch regulator had just found to be dispensing without identity checks or interaction checks remained free to ship into Germany, and Zava is the customer of that pharmacy.
Verband Sozialer Wettbewerb against Wellster Healthtech of Munich. The model at issue: German consumers, online consultations with Irish physicians, questionnaire-based diagnosis, personal contact optional rather than mandatory. OLG München reversed for the claimant in April 2024 on the ground that a personal conversation is required. The BGH has referred to the CJEU whether Germany’s ban on advertising remote treatment that does not meet German professional standards is compatible with the freedom to provide services. German patient, Irish doctor, questionnaire, no mandatory personal contact is a literal description of Zava’s German offering. A ruling against Wellster is a ruling against Zava’s German business model in all but name, and it is currently unpriced.
Three social media posts sharing Zava referral discount codes for Mounjaro: Instagram at 15 per cent off, TikTok at 25 per cent, and Facebook at 25 per cent inside a public lipoedema support group. The ASA held these were ads within the CAP Code because the codes were directly connected with the supply of goods under Zava’s own referral scheme, and that Zava bore responsibility because as the operator of the scheme it could stipulate how codes were shared and could revoke credits. Breaches of CAP rule 12.12 on prescription-only medicine advertising and rule 1.7. The liability point is now precedent and is being written about as such. Any referral or affiliate scheme we run inherits this exposure.
A Mumsnet advertorial about medicated weight loss carrying commentary from Dr Clair Grainger, a clinical lead at Zava, with buttons linking to Zava consultations. Recognition upheld: labelled only Created by ZAVA in small text, in the style of an editorial article. POM promotion upheld, and the MHRA is recorded in the ruling as expressing concern that terms like GLP1s and prescription medicines could prompt public requests for prescription-only medicines. Health professional endorsement upheld on Dr Grainger’s quotes. Breaches of CAP rules 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 12.12 and 12.18. The MHRA fed into an ASA ruling without ever opening its own named investigation.
The inspection found that verification does not include independently verifying the person’s height, so the BMI may not always be accurate. BMI is the gate for GLP-1 prescribing, so this is not a documentation quibble. Notably, the German business already runs photographic BMI verification, so the group has the control and has not applied it uniformly.
Every monthly advertising investigations publication from 2014 to August 2026 was checked, including child attachments. No Zava, ZAVA, DrEd or Health Bridge appearance in any month. For calibration the MHRA does name companies: the July 2026 report names Bishops Waltham Pharmacy, Bolt Healthcare, Cured Health, Simple Online Healthcare, The Family Chemist, Vir Health trading as Numan, and YourDose. Zava is conspicuously absent from a list its direct competitors populate.
Health Minister Hermann Gröhe announced plans in November 2015 to ban prescriptions from remote treatment, targeting DrEd, by amending section 48 AMG to require personal contact before prescribing. By May 2016 the Lex DrEd had been softened so that personal became direct contact, satisfiable by In-Augenscheinnahme, with the test being whether it is obvious to the pharmacist that no direct contact took place. In May 2018 the 121st Deutscher Ärztetag relaxed the Fernbehandlungsverbot, and on 30 May 2018 the Ärztekammer Baden-Württemberg permitted DrEd to consult and dispatch prescriptions to German patients. Verified today: the current text of section 48 AMG contains no Fernbehandlung dispensing prohibition at all. The current pressure on this model is judicial rather than statutory, running through the HWG and section 11 ApoG, which is a harder target to lobby away and is now sitting with the CJEU.
Hims & Hers carries a securities class action concerning the Novo Nordisk relationship, three shareholder derivative actions all stayed, and Novo Nordisk A/S against Hims & Hers filed 9 February 2026. None concern Zava directly, but they are the weather around the parent’s GLP-1 conduct.
No conditions, no improvement notices, no enforcement action and no standards-not-met outcome on either pharmacy. No CQC requirement notices beyond should-recommendations. No ICO monetary penalty, reprimand or enforcement notice against any Health Bridge entity. The ICO fee-payer register entry could not be retrieved programmatically, so the registration reference remains unconfirmed while the absence of published enforcement is confirmed.
Read-across
What a new entrant should copy, and what it should avoid.
Copy this
- Photographic BMI verification on first request. It is a stronger clinical control than self-declared BMI, it is the direct answer to the exact finding a GPhC inspector made against Zava UK in November 2025, and it costs almost nothing to implement. Build it in from day one rather than retrofitting after an inspection.
- Full refund of the consultation fee within five to eight days when the doctor declines. It defuses most of the objection to charging before the clinical decision and it is published on the site rather than buried in terms.
- First-party proxied analytics. Segment on your own subdomain, server-side A/B testing, self-hosted consent, no GTM and no Meta Pixel in the delivered HTML. Better data than ad-blocked competitors get, a smaller third-party surface on pages carrying prescription-medicine content, and one fewer thing to explain to a regulator.
- Publish stock status next to price. Verfügbar or Derzeit nicht verfügbar against each dose is a genuine trust signal in a category defined by shortages, and almost nobody else does it.
- Explicit journey segmentation on the homepage: getting started, already on treatment, maintaining. The middle door is a competitor-poaching funnel and it is matched in the SEO estate by dedicated switching pages. This is the single cleanest growth mechanic in the set.
- Pass-through pharmacy pricing plus a flat, non-scaling service fee, with PZN codes published. It is legible, it is defensible as pricing rather than margin, and it beats a bundled subscription from month two onward.
- Footnote the outcome claims. The UK homepage attributes its efficacy numbers to SURMOUNT-1 and its sentiment numbers to a survey of over 2,000 patients. That is the standard to hold ourselves to.
- Build the comparison pages Zava does not have. There are no named-competitor pages anywhere in Zava’s 1,886-URL estate, so a rival building them faces no defensive content at all.
Avoid this
- Do not assume the German naming question has a settled answer. One owner is running two irreconcilable readings of section 10 paragraph 1 HWG in the same market at the same time, both consolidated into one 10-K, and only one of them can be right. Take a position deliberately and document the advice behind it rather than copying whichever competitor you looked at last.
- Do not run a customer referral or affiliate scheme without control over how codes are shared. ASA ruling A25-1279971 holds the scheme operator responsible for what customers post, including inside a public patient support group, and the ruling’s reasoning turns on that publicness. That is now precedent and it applies to us the moment we launch one.
- Do not put a clinician’s quotes into a paid editorial placement. Ruling A25-1309865 upheld on recognition, POM promotion and health professional endorsement all at once, and drew MHRA comment in the process. Advertorials with named doctors are a three-breach construction.
- Do not build a German funnel that depends on a pharmacy steering prescriptions to itself. Section 11 ApoG is what the BGH used against the Shop Apotheke and Zava arrangement in 2023, and trade press reports the enjoined arrangement restarted in July 2025, which is a live compliance question rather than a precedent that has gone away.
- Do not treat the German patient, Irish prescriber, Dutch pharmacy structure as settled. It is exactly the model referred to the CJEU on 26 March 2026 in BGH I ZR 118/24, which is now pending as C-265/26 Wellster Healthtech Group. Note that the BGH published its own view that the German rule is justified. Anyone building on it now is taking an unhedged bet on the answer.
- Do not rely on Royal Mail or an equivalent for a two to eight degree product. Zava has customer-visible complaints about a three-month supply spoiled in hot weather, which is both a clinical risk and a public one.
- Do not skip an AI crawler policy. Zava has none across 1,886 URLs including 43 German brand pages, which for a regulated healthcare business in 2026 is an omission rather than a choice worth copying.
- Do not judge a competitor’s naming discipline from the obvious URL. Zava’s German category stub is an empty noindex shell, so a shallow check concludes it is compliant. The brand pages sit one level deeper, and Juniper serves a different answer in its structured data than in its rendered FAQ. Always read the raw HTML.
- Do not build without a first-party app if retention matters. Zava has no live app in any market, and its competitors’ adherence and lifetime-value advantage over it is structural.
Open on this company
- Does Prime Pharmacy B.V. hold a German BfArM Versandhandelserlaubnis? The DoktorABC research answered this structurally: it does not, cannot and does not need one, because a Versandhandelserlaubnis under section 11a ApoG requires a German Apothekenbetriebserlaubnis that a Dutch B.V. cannot hold. Zava’s German dispensing is lawful only under section 73(1) sentence 1 no. 1a AMG, because the Netherlands sits on the Länderliste. The Freie Apothekerschaft is litigating to have it struck off. That single political line item is the foundation of Zava’s German business.
- Is the IMC registration number in the German Impressum genuine, or is a GMC number mislabelled as Irish? The number is identical to Dr Antonakopoulos’s GMC number, and the German model depends legally on the prescriber being IMC-registered.
- Did any Ordnungsmittel or contempt proceedings follow Shop Apotheke’s reported resumption of Zava referrals in July 2025? Nothing found, which is not the same as nothing happening.
- What are the French and Spanish dispensing arrangements? No pharmacy is named in either market.
- What is the zavamed-admin-it production instance for? An Italian admin console exists in the certificate transparency logs with no consumer property behind it. Dormant, retired or pre-launch.
- Are Switzerland and Austria genuinely exited? The about-us page lists them, the 10-K market list does not, and no entity or licence has been found in either.
- Why is Zava Deutschland GmbH in liquidation since 29 July 2026 while Germany is described as a growth market? The likely reconciliation is that Germany is served from Dublin, but the timing is worth watching.
- When is the next CQC inspection, and will it be the first to examine the GLP-1 business at all? The published 2023 report predates the offering entirely.
- Which of the two Hims readings of section 10 paragraph 1 HWG has actual legal advice behind it, and will the group rationalise? So far the two have diverged further rather than converged.
